Daily Five: Kadri’s Lawyer Says He’ll Seek Hearing On Termination

Five Things To Know Thursday, Sept. 6

1.  Today is Thursday, Sept. 6.  The National Weather Service predicts patchy fog before 9 a.m., then sunny skies and a high temperature of 76 degrees. Tonight will be mostly cloudy, with a low of 64 degrees.

2.  Gregg Adler, the lawyer representing Superintendent Paul Kadri, said Wednesday he has not yet received the letter from the school board notifying him it's considering terminating his contract, but Kadri will seek a hearing once that letter is received. He has 20 days from the receipt of the document to seek the hearing. 

The board . The board made the decision after receiving an investigative report in which employees accused him of abusive behavior. Kadri says the allegations are untrue.

3.  The Town Council plans to tour the former Groton Heights School in the coming weeks and is trying to settle on a date. The task force organized to recommend a future use of the school , with a preference given to education.

Groton Heights was built in 1912 and functioned as a school until just a few years ago. The town took it over in July 2007, after the Board of Education closed it. It has remained vacant since.

4.  The program “Mark Twain 100 Years Later” will be offered at 2 p.m. on Sept. 23 at the Groton Senior Center. In the program, Dave Ehlert offers a tribute to Mark Twain’s Life. The program is co-sponsored by Groton Public Library and the Groton Senior Center, and is free and open to the public.

5.  Geraldine Brooks, who wrote Caleb’s Crossing, will speak at 7 p.m. on Sept. 18 at Fitch High School and will sign copies of her book after her presentation. Bank Square Books, of Mystic, will provide books for sale at the event. The presentation is free.
