Daily Five: Make A Snowflake To Benefit Sandy Hook

Five Things To Know Thursday, Jan. 3.

1.  Today is Thursday, Jan. 3.  The National Weather Service predicts sunny skies and a high temperature of 30 degrees. Tonight will be mostly cloudy, with a low of 24 degrees.

2.  The Mystic Arts Center’s KTJ Studio is hosting a free craft center from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m. on Saturday to benefit the children at Sandy Hook Elementary. Arts center staff will help children make snowflakes that will hang at Sandy Hook School's new home.  The project supports The National PTA, Connecticut PTA, and Sandy Hook’s local PTA ‘s effort to create a “Winter Wonderland” for students.

3.  The Groton Board of Education will hold a special meeting from 7 p.m. until 9 p.m. on Monday in the Town Hall Annex. The board’s policy committee meets prior to the budget meeting, from 5:30 p.m. until 6:45 p.m.

4.  The City Cabaret’s next concert will be held at 3 p.m. on Jan. 20 in the Groton Municipal Building at 295 Meridian St., if you haven’t been yet. The concerts are free, and this month’s performance features Andy Sherwood’s Dixieland Jazz Quartet. For more information, call the concert line at (860) 446-4129.

5.  The Groton Senior Center will offer “Boot Camp” for Baby Boomers from 5:30 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Jan. 8.  Kathleen O’Beirne will be guest speaker and talk about ways to make life more enjoyable. A light supper is included, and the fee is $6. To register by the Jan. 4 deadline, call (860) 441-6785.
