Daily Five: Paul Kadri, a Craft Fair and a Horsemen's Ride

Five Things To Know Friday, Sept. 28

1.  Today is Friday, Sept. 28.  The National Weather Service predicts rain, with thunderstorms possible after 2 p.m. and a high temperature of 69 degress. Showers and a possible thunderstorm may continue tonight and the low will fall to 58 degrees. The chance of rain is 100 percent today, 80 percent tonight.

2.  The lawyer for Superintendent Paul Kadri is expected to respond on Monday to the board's notification that he's being considered for termination. The Groton Board of Education voted Aug. 30 to notify Kadri it’s considering terminating his contract.

The board made the decision after receiving an investigative report in which employees accused him of abusive behavior. Kadri says the allegations are untrue. Gregg Adler, the lawyer representing Kadri, said he will seek a hearing and ask that it be before an independent arbitrator.

3.  The Lady's Guild of the St. Mary Mother of the Reedemer Church is hosting its first Fall Arts and Crafts Fair from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. on Saturday in the Parish Center at 69 Groton Long Point Road. The guild will have coffee and pastries, and Grossman's will offer clam chowder and sandwiches. There will also be pumpkin painting and face painting for the children.

4.  The Tri State Horsemen's annual beach trail ride and chowder fest will be held at Bluff Point at 10 a.m. on Saturday. The ride leaves at 10 a.m., but even if you don't have a horse, you can stop in for lunch at noon. Lunch includes clam and corn chowder, hotdogs, hamburgers, soda and water.

5.  The Connecticut Department of Social Services’ Medicare Rx-Xpress bus will be in Groton from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. on Oct. 18 at Groton Human Services if you need help. The bus provides help with Medicaid and Medicare assistance, HUSKY medical insurance, food stamp applications and information. Appointments are recommended; call (860) 441-6760.
