Daily Five: Pfizer Granted Approval of First Step toward Demolition of Building 118

Five Things To Know, Thursday, Sept. 20

1.  Today is Thursday, Sept. 20.  The National Weather Service predicts sunny skies and a high temperature of 69 degrees. Tonight will be partly cloudy, with a low of 51.

2.  The Groton City Planning And Zoning Commission on Tuesday approved a coastal site plan for Pfizer to proceed with demolition of Building 118, the 750,000-square foot complex on Eastern Point Road in Groton. The company would have to apply for a demolition permit next to proceed.

Pfizer spokesman Steven L. Danehy said in early August that if the company's efforts to sell or lease the building are unsuccessful by the end of the year, "demolition is a possibility. A final decision on the future of the 118 Complex will be made by the end of 2012," he said at that time.
