Five Things To Know, Wednesday, Nov. 23

1.  Today is Wednesday, Nov. 23. The National Weather Service predicts rain, wind, and a high temperature of 53 degrees. Skies will start clearing after 8 p.m. and the low will fall to 37 degrees. Groton Town offices will be closed Thursday and Friday due to the Thanksgiving holiday.

Companies were cited for work done from Oct. 27 to Nov. 3.  Stop work orders carry a fine of $300 per day and are levied against businesses that fail to meet obligations in areas such as workers’ compensation.

3.   Groton may save $864,000 by refunding earlier bonds to obtain better interest rates, according to a report by the town manager. The savings could include $656,000 in bonds from the general fund and $208,000 from the sewer fund. The final numbers will be known after the bonds are sold Nov. 29.
