Daily Five: School Board To Discuss Superintendent Search Tonight

1.  Today is Monday, April 1. Be on the lookout for April Fools’ Day pranks. The National Weather Service predicts partly sunny skies, a high temperature of 53 degrees and a slight chance of showers after 11 a.m. The low will drop to 32 degrees tonight.

2.  The Groton Board of Education meets at 7 p.m. today in the school administrative office and will discuss the search process for a new superintendent. The board may also go into executive session to discuss the evaluation of interim Superintendent John Ramos.

The school board decided last week to send out a request for proposals seeking additional search firms to help find a superintendent, and to begin forming the local committee that would be involved in the search. Ramos’ contract as an interim expires June 30. Former Superintendent Paul Kadri was fired March 5.

3.  Wayne’s Barbershop has moved to a new location at 3 Pearl Street in downtown Mystic and will hold a ribbon cutting at 5:30 p.m. on April 4. The shop offers same day appointments, as well as serving wallk-in business for haircuts. Owner Wayne Richard took over John’s Barbershop from his grandfather in 2005. 4.  Northeast Academy Elementary will hold its spring Scholastic Book Fair from 9:30 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. today and Tuesday; from 9:30 a.m. until 7:30 p.m. Wednesday; from 9:30 a.m. until 4 p.m. Thursday and from 9:30 a.m. until 11 a.m. Friday at the school.

5.  The Groton Senior Citizens “Club 55” will hold its flea market from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. on April 20 at the senior center on Newtown Road. The event is free and open to the public. For more information, (860) 441-6785.
