Daily Five: School Redistricting Choices To Be Updated Monday

Five Things To Know Friday, March 23

1. Today is Friday, March 23.  The National Weather Service forecasts mostly sunny skies and a high temperature of 66 degrees. Tonight will be mostly cloudy, with a low of 45.

2. The Groton Board of Education meets as a committee of the whole at 5:30 p.m. on Monday in the school administrative offices and is expected to discuss  redistricting, among other topics. Groton is weighing redistricting to consolidate from three to two middle schools and correct a racial imbalance at Catherine Kolnaski Magnet school.

The school board told Superintendent Paul Kadri last month but Kadri said short of redistricting. The board has asked him to look at redistricting options that would minimize splitting up neighborhoods.

3.  The starts at 1 p.m. on Sunday from the Mystic Seaport Museum. More than 100 groups and 25 bands – including 11 pipe bands - will march on the route from the museum to the Mystic Art Association.  Parade organizers expect 1,600 people to march, including Irish step dancers, fife and drum bands and community groups. Businesswoman and entrepreneur Joyce Olson Resnikoff will serve as Grand Marshal.

4.  Fifteen finalists will compete in a sing-off in Groton this weekend, for the chance to sing the National Anthem at the Southeastern Connecticut Submarine Force Birthday Ball in April at the MGM Grand Hotel. The sing off will be held at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday at Fitch High School, according to a news release by the Submarine Group Two Public Affairs Office.

The finalists are: Jayson Beaulieu, Christine Fisher, Mendy Goebel, Marion Green, Kindred, Kuen, Techandra Te'ia Lewis, Brittney Longyear, Meaghan Malone, April Marie, Denise Mitchelle, Norton, Elizabeth Parsons, Sarah Salyers, and Lisa Weiss, the release reported. 

5. The Ebenezer Avery House at Fort Griswold is looking for a seasonal part-time curator, if museum collections interest you. The hours are from noon until 4 p.m., from Memorial Day until Labor Day.
