Daily Five: The Presidential Primary, The School Board and Abbott's Lobster

Five Things To Know, Friday, April 20

 

1.  Today is Friday, April 20.  The National Weather Service predicts sunny skies with a high temperature near 59 degrees. Skies will cloud up tonight and the low will fall to 52 degrees.

2.  Monday at noon is the deadline to register in person to vote in the Republican presidential primary on April 24. Unaffiliated voters have the same deadline to affiliate with the Republican party if they wish to cast ballots. The order of candidates on the ballot will be: Newt Gingrich, Ron Paul, Mitt Romney and Rick Santorum, plus one line for “uncommitted.”  There will be no Democratic primary.

3.  The Board of Education’s committee of the whole will meet at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday in the school administrative offices and may.  The school department is compiling a list, by street, of roads where students would be assigned to new schools next year.  The board is also expected to vote in the coming weeks on the plan to redistrict Groton's middle schools.

4.  will open for the season on May 4. The restaurant on Pearl Street in Noank will be open from noon until 7 p.m. on Friday, Saturday and Sunday during May. Starting Memorial Day weekend, on Friday, May 25, the restaurant will begin summer hours, and be open daily from noon until 9 p.m. through Labor Day weekend.

5.  The will hold a Fishing Club Carnival from 1 p.m. until 3 p.m. on April 28 at the school at 130 Shennecossett Road in Groton. Events will include an antique rod show, a bake sale, obstacle course, fishing and other activities. Proceeds will support the school’s fishing club.
