Five Things To Know Tuesday, April 24.

 

1.  Today is Tuesday, April 24.  The National Weather Service predicts a slight chance of showers, partly sunny skies and a high temperature of 58 degrees. Tonight will be mostly cloudy, with a low of 45 degrees.

2.  Republicans go to the polls today to vote for their presidential candidate to face Barack Obama in November. Groton has eight polling places, which will be open from 6 a.m. until 8 p.m. Locations are listed below:

3.  Administrative Professionals’ Day - or Secretary’s Day - is Wednesday.  Employers often send flowers to acknowledge the work of their secretaries, receptionists and office assistants. Do you have a favorite florist? Let us know

4.  Wednesday is also the last of three community meetings the Groton School Department is holding to talk to residents about The meeting is scheduled from 6:30 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Catherine Kolnaski Magnet School auditorium. If you have questions about redistricting, this is a chance to get answers.

5.  A record number of people - 70,000, or about 10 percent of the total who visit in a typical year - went to Mystic Aquarium during the two-week April vacation period, the aquarium said in a news release. The aquarium's new Titanic exhibit opened April 12, and contributed to the attendance, the news release said.
