Daily Five: The School Board, A Library Cleanup and Little League Registration

Five Things To Know, Friday, Jan. 25

1. Today is Friday, Jan. 25. The National Weather Service predicts increasing clouds, with a high temperature of 25 degrees and a wind chill as low as -8.  Tonight there’s an 80 percent chance of snow, with accumulation of 1 to 3 inches. The low will drop to 20 degrees.

2.  The Groton Board of Education meets as a Committee of the Whole at 7 p.m. on Monday in the West Side Middle School media center. Topics on the agenda include the achievement gap, the future of Fitch Middle School and projects to improve school security.

3.  Mystic & Noank Library is holding an indoor volunteer work day from 9 a.m. until noon at the library. The effort will be dedicated to cleaning and maintenance tasks, and refreshments will be provided. If you can help, please call the library at (860) 536-7721 or sign up at the circulation desk.

4.  Registration for the Mystic Baseball 2013 season will be held from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. on Saturday at the Mystic Fire Department at 34 Broadway Avenue. Registration covers Tee Ball for boys and girls ages 4 to 8, Little League Baseball for children ages 6 to 12, Babe Ruth Baseball for teens ages 13 to 18, and Girls Softball for girls ages 6 to 16. You can also register online at mysticlittleleague.com. 

5.  The Mystic Contra Dance will offer a program to live music where a caller teaches every dance at 8 p.m. on Saturday at 39 Greenmanville Avenue in Mystic. There’s a beginner lesson at 7:45 p.m. if you want to come early, and all are welcome. The cost is $9 general admission, $5 for student and $2 for children under 12.
