Daily Five: The Superintendent’s Evaluation And An Upcoming Meeting On School Climate

1.  Today is Thursday, May 3.  The National Weather Service predicts areas of fog this morning, cloudy skies, a slight chance of showers before 1 p.m. and a high temperature of 57 degrees. The low will fall to 50 tonight. The chance of precipitation is 20 percent today, 40 percent tonight.

2.  The Groton Board of Education will hold a special meeting from 5 p.m. until 6 p.m. on Monday in the school administration building to discuss the superintendent’s evaluation. on his overall evaluation and approved a one-year extension of his contract until June 30, 2014. Under the contract, Kadri is paid a base salary of $167,475. Kadri was hired in 2008, replacing James E. Mitchell, who retired after 38 years in the school district.

3.  The school board, superintendent and teachers’ union from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. on May 9 in the school administration building to continue talking about school climate. with a mediator to talk about how to improve the climate in Groton. The union and superintendent have clashed this year over changes to the middle school schedule, sixth grade student teams and staffing.

4.  A one-year teacher certification program has expanded into the University of Connecticut at Avery Point. The Neag School of Education will offer its accelerated “teacher certification program for college graduates” and is holding an open house from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. on May 16 at Branford House. 5.  The Greater Mystic Chamber of Commerce will hold its monthly Business After Hours on from 5:30 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, May 8 at on Lestertown Road in Groton. As an incentive, the chamber will draw a car raffle ticket for $100. The cost of attendance is $10 for members and $20 for non-members.
