Daily Five: Town Council Sworn In Tonight

Five Things To Know Tuesday, Dec. 6

1.  Today is Tuesday, Dec. 6.  The National Weather Service predicts patchy fog before 10 a.m., showers, and a high temperature of 58 degrees. The low will fall to 43 tonight.

2.  The town clerk will administer the oath of office to town councilors at 7:30 p.m. today in the Town Hall Annex. The council will also elect a mayor. , and a few new faces made the cut.  The councilors are: Jim Streeter, Harry A. Watson, Bill Johnson, Frank O’Beirne, Jr., Bruce S. Flax, Deborah Peruzzotti, Heather Bond Somers, Dean G. Antipas and Rita M. Schmidt.

3.  Naval Submarine Base New London and the Connecticut chapter of Sons and Daughters of Pearl Harbor Survivors will commemorate the 70th anniversary of the attack on Pearl Harbor with a program at noon on Wednesday at the Submarine Force Library and Museum in Groton. Rear Admiral Richard P. Breckenridge will speak and two survivors of the attack will take part in a wreath laying ceremony.

4.  The City of Groton will hold its Holiday Festival from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Thursday in the Groton Municipal Building. The event is free, and includes an appearance by Santa from 6 p.m. until 7 p.m. Hot and cold drinks will be served, and students from Catherine Kolnaski Magnet School, West Side Middle School, Sacred Heart School and St. John's Christian Church Choir will attend.

5.  The Connecticut chapter of the American College of Physicians recently gave its 2011 legislator of the year award to U.S. Rep. Joseph Courtney at the chapter's annual meeting in Southington. The group represents more than 2,300 doctors, medical students and residents in the state. Courtney was recognized for his efforts to improve health care delivery in Connecticut.
