1. After last weekend's meteorlogical nightmare, this weekend promises only sweetness and light. The National Weather Service forecast for the weekend:

  • Today: Partly sunny, then gradually becoming sunny, with a high near 53. North wind between 11 and 14 mph, with gusts as high as 26 mph.
    Saturday: Sunny, with a high near 50. North wind between 10 and 13 mph.
    Sunday: Sunny, with a high near 55.
    Monday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 59.

2. If you haven't made plans yet for tonight, Groton Rotary's annual wine tasting and silent auction begins at 6:30 at the .

3. On Nov. 2, despite a large portion of the state still being without power, someone in Connecticut bought a $254.2 million winning Powerball jackpot ticket, the largest prize ever won in CT Lottery history, according to the lottery. "Nationwide, 2,277,427 winning tickets were purchased for the November 2, 2011 Powerball drawing.  Of the 28,690 of those tickets sold in Connecticut, one ticket matched all six numbers correctly, resulting in a $254.2 million windfall for the yet unknown winner," the lottery said in a press release. The winning numbers were 12-14-34-39-46 and a Powerball of 36.  Power Play multiplier number is 4. Check your tickets and good luck! (And call us if you won!)

5. The Old Mystic Fire Department launches its annual toy drive and open house is Saturday. Items can be dropped off at 4 locations:  OMFD Headquarters (295 Cow Hill Road, Mystic), OMFD Station 1 (21 North Stonington Road, Mystic), Old Mystic General Store (47 Main Street, Mystic) and McQuade’s Market (14 Clara Drive, Mystic).  The food drive will culminate on Saturday, November 5, 2011, with an Open House at the Old Mystic Fire Department Headquarters, 295 Cow Hill Road, Mystic.
