UPDATED. Daily Five: Wreaths, Anime, Meetings, Numbers and Peace

Five Things You Need To Know For Nov. 22

1.Today is Nov. 22. By the numbers, there are two days until Thanksgiving, three until Black Friday and four until Small Business Saturday.  And…there are just 39 days left in 2011. Whoa.

2. Muni meetings tonight: Noank Zoning Commission Special Meeting at 7 in the Noank Fire House and the Groton Town Council Committee of the Whole meetings et al have been cancelled

3. Anime and manga club in Sibley Hall at the Groton Public library at 7 p.m. An opportunity for young anime fans to get together and share drawings and conversation. Open to grades 6 -12, kids are invited to not only bring their artwork, but art supplies and costumes if they’re into dressing up. The group will be viewing Black Cat, a PG-rated animation feature.  Refreshments are served. It sounds pretty cool.

4. The Riverfront Children’s Annual Holiday Wreath sale event will be held all day Wednesday at 476 Thames St. in Groton. All wreaths are $14 or two for $25 and proceeds benefit Riverfront’s tuition scholarship program. A good cause and right in time for the holidays, so go grab a wreath or two or three.

5. On this day 48 years ago (another, whoa!), President John Fitzgerald Kennedy was assassinated. Imagine a world without the Peace Corps, which he asked Congress to create in 1961. Hear his executive order: http://www.jfklibrary.org/Asset-Viewer/2DfDYdJEAE65QLj6otQQkQ.aspx
