Daily Five: Plans For Portable Classrooms Move Forward

Five Things To Know, Tuesday, March 27.

1.  Today is Tuesday, March 27.  The National Weather Service predicts sunny skies, a high temperature of 47 degrees and a breeze of 18 to 21 mph. Tonight will be partly cloudy, with a low of 31 degrees.

2.  The Groton Board of Education voted Monday to approve plans to install two double-portable classrooms at Cutler Middle School and one double-portable classroom at West Side Middle School to accommodate additional students next year.  The town expects to receive 50 to 57 percent reimbursement from the state for the portables.

3.  The board also voted to approve plans to partially replace the roof at . The school department is applying for a grant to cover part of the cost; the $625,000 project is eligible for state reimbursement for 50 percent to 57 percent. The section of roof to be replaced is in the southwest corner of the existing building, said Wes Greenleaf, director of buildings and grounds for the public schools.

4.  The Groton Town Council will hold a public hearing on the proposed budget at 7 p.m. on Thursday in the Groton Senior Center. If you have thoughts about the proposed $121.89 million budget for the coming fiscal year, this is an opportunity to make your voice heard.  The budget proposal includes increased spending for debt service

5.  The Groton Senior Center will hold its annual Community Services Fair from10 a.m. until 2 p.m. on Wednesday in the senior center.  More than 80 vendors are expected to attend, covering information on topics like health care, nutrition, insurance, legal assistance and state programs. who stopped to talk to representatives of the various agencies - from Groton Parks and Recreation to the AARP.
