Eastern Connecticut Readers Say They Felt Earthquake

Residents of Gales Ferry, Pawcatuck and New London say they noticed the tremor.

Several readers in Eastern Connecticut wrote in comments on Patch that they felt the earthquake Tuesday evening centered in Maine, measuring 4.6 on the Richter scale.

The quake, which occurred around 7:12 p.m., had its epicenter 13 miles northwest of Saco, Maine, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

Mary Beth Asciolla wrote that she felt it in Gales Ferry.

“The furniture shook and (I) could see the plants sway. Weird feeling – Never felt anything like it before,” she said.

In Pawcatuck, Donna Pearlman wrote that she “thought it was an extra big train going by.”

Sherburne Stidfole said “I felt it on the 9th floor of Harbour Towers here in New London.”
