Five Things To Know Today

The International Committee Of The Red Cross, A Temporary No Parking Order And Boating

1.  Today is Monday, March 14.  The National Weather Service forecasts partly sunny skies and a high temperature near 43 degrees. Tonight will be mostly clear, with a low around 26 degrees.

2.  Connecticut residents trying to re-establish contact with family and friends in Japan can use a family links website set up by the International Committee of the Red Cross. The website (www.icrc.org/familylinks) allows people in Japan to register to inform family and friends that they're safe and provide their contact information.  Information provided by the website is available to all and is free. Inquiries about U.S. citizens living or traveling in Japan should be referred to the U.S. Department of State, Office of Overseas Citizens Services at 1 (888) 407-4747.

3. The Groton Town Police and Stonington Police will issue a temporary no parking order and road closures for Sunday, March 20, in downtown Mystic.  The temporary order and road closures are in conjunction with the St. Patrick’s Day Parade.  To see the listing of road closures and locations of temporary no parking order, click here.

4.  The Groton Parks & Recreation department holds a state boating course from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. today at William Seely School.  This class is open to adults and children age 10 and older.  The fee is $20 per student. For more information, click here.

5.  The Groton Public Library's Books 2 Movies program will show the film P.S. I Love You at a screening from 2 p.m. until 4 p.m. today.  The movie is rated PG-13 and is based on the novel by Cecelia Ahern. The program is free and open to the public. For more information, click here.
