Five Things To Know Today

Fitch High School, The Tax Deadline And Basketball

1.  Today is Monday, April 18. It'll be mostly sunny and breezy with a high near 52degrees today, according to the National Weather Service. Passover begins at sundown and tonight there is a chance of rain with patchy fog after midnight. If it doesn't rain, it will be cloudy with a low around 43 degrees.

2.  Fitch High School recently finished the accreditation process, which is done every ten years. The review began about two years ago with a high school self-evaluation, followed by an improvement plan. A team of about 15 evaluators visited Fitch starting April 10 to review every aspect of the high school, from academic programs to school culture. The group finished its review last week and complimented the high school in its initial assessment. A final report is issued in July.

3.  The deadline for filing taxes is today. If you can’t pay, the IRS recommends filing by the deadline anyway and paying as much as possible to minimize penalties. You can also request an automatic six-month extension to file by filing a Form 4868, at www.irs.gov/freefile.
