Five Guys Burgers And Fries, Pirate Days And Birds Of Prey

1.  Today is Wednesday, April 20. There is a 50 percent chance of showers, with thunderstorms also possible after noon, according to the National Weather Service. If it doesn't rain it will be mostly cloudy, with a high near 54 degrees. Tonight, there is a chance of showers and thunderstorms before 9pm, then a slight chance of showers between 9pm and midnight and a low temperature around 45 degrees.

2.  Davelynn Properties LLC, bought the building at 143 Gold Star Highway across from the Walmart for $700,000 last week, and the 1950s-style diner will undergo some changes before opening as Five Guys Burgers And Fries in June. Kevin Glazier, who has the franchise, also runs the Five Guys restaurants at Mystic Green on Coogan Boulevard and on Flanders Road in Niantic.

3.  Groton Public Library is hosting the "Raptors of Connecticut Lecture and Hike Series" about birds of prey today, with the lecture from 7 p.m. until 8 p.m. The hike will take place Saturday, May 7, at Avalonia’s Pine Swamp Wildlife Corridor Property in Ledyard. To learn more, click here.

4.  Mystic Seaport Museum is running the program "Pirate Days" today, including a treasure hunt, pirate souvenir craft shop and a High Seas show. For more information, click here.

5.  Groton Parks and Recreation and Charles Barnum Elementary School will hold an Arbor Day celebration and tree planting ceremony at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, April 29 at the school.
