Five Things To Know Today

The March For Babies, Military Volunteers And Penguin Chicks

1.  Today is Tuesday, April 19. It's Passover. The National Weather Service predicts, showers starting in morning and continuing through the evening with a high near 54 degrees. The temperature will cool down to around 43 degrees at night.

2.  On Saturday, April 30, hundreds of families and business leaders will take part in a 3-mile March of Dimes annual March for Babies walk at Bluff Point State Park in Groton. Money raised by the event supports health initiatives such as prenatal wellness and research. Registration begins at 9 a.m. with the walk at 10 a.m.

3.  The Groton School Department recently honored military volunteers in the schools at an annual breakfast. The town is involved in a group that meets monthly called the Military Superintendent’s Liaison Committee, where area superintendents, members of the military and state officials discuss ways to improve education for families moving in and out of the area. Groton has 800 to 900 students moving through the district each year.

4.  If you're home with the children and need an activity, the Mother's Friendship and Craft Group meets from 9:30 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. on the second, third and fourth Tuesday of each month at the Groton Human Services building. Children are welcome and you don't need to bring a craft to stop in.

5.  The Mystic Aquarium has a group of African penguin chicks for the children to check out, if you're looking for something to do during vacation week. Penguin chick feeding time is at 1:30 p.m. For more information, click here.
