Five Things To Know Today

Child & Family Agency, The 2011 Revaluation and Birds of Prey

1.  Today is Thursday, May 5.  The National Weather Service forecasts cloudy skies, an occasional shower and a high temperature of 57 degrees. Tonight will be cloudy, with a low near 39 degrees.

2.  The Child & Family Agency of Southeastern Connecticut is holding its 57th annual sale starting at 9 a.m. today at the former Arrow Paper Party Store in Groton Shopping Plaza. Thousands of items including furniture, clothing, small appliances, books and CDs will be available. If you're watching your budget, this could be a place to stop.

3.  Tyler Technologies, Inc., the company handling the 2011 revaluation of property in Groton, has finished its first set of calls to houses in town. The company  has also mailed notices asking for inspection appointments if its representatives were unable to inspect specific homes when they first stopped in. The company will send letters to homes in Groton Long Point and Mumford Cove this month or in June.

4.  The Groton Public Library's "Raptors of Connecticut" series will hike Avalonia’s Pine Swamp Wildlife Corridor Property in Ledyard looking for wild birds at 9 a.m. on Saturday. Hikers should meet at the Whalehead Road entrance. Registration is not required; hikers are asked to leave dogs at home.

5.  On the first Thursday of every month, a support group called Grandparents Raising Grandchildren meets from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at Groton Human Services.  Free child care is available, and the group participates in special events like a summer picnic.
