Five Things To Know Today

A Memorial Honoring Black Soldiers, Carlie Caliguri And A Taste Of The Sound

1.  Today is Friday, May 20.  The National Weather Service forecasts more rain, at times heavy, and a chance of thunderstorms. Skies will gradually clear some in the middle of the day, then cloud up again. The high temperature will reach 66 degrees, and the low will drop to about 50.

2.  Representative Town Meeting is expected to wrap up budget deliberations by Monday, though the group may extend those discussions to Wednesday if needed.  Once debate is finished, the town council will adopt a final budget and set the mill rate. That's expected to take place June 7.

3.  Maurice Barboza, who wants to create a national memorial in Washington D.C. honoring black soldiers who fought in the American Revolution, has asked the Groton Town Council for its support. Barboza wants the council to approve a resolution that recognizes local black soldiers and supports a national memorial. Of the black soldiers known to have fought in the American Revolution, 24 came from Groton.
