Five Things To Know Today

An Education Breakfast, The Mystic River Historical Society And A Memorial Day Ceremony

1.  Today is Wednesday, May 25.  We'll have a little respite from the New England gray today. The National Weather Service predicts sunny skies, with a high temperature near 70 degrees and a low of 53 tonight.

2.  The Groton Business Association holds its annual education breakfast at 7:30 a.m. today at the Groton Inn & Suites. Guests will include students from Robert E. Fitch Senior High School, Ella T. Grasso Southeastern Regional Vocational Technical School, as well as high schools in Ledyard, Stonington and Waterford.

3.  The Mystic River Historical Society's annual Pot Luck Supper will be held at 6 p.m. today in Mystic Congregational Church Parish Hall, with the historical society's annual meeting to follow at 7:30 p.m.  The event is free and open to the public, and will include a presentation by historian Rick Spencer, who will perform songs written during the Civil War. 4.  The U.S. Submarine Veterans, Inc., a non-profit veterans group with more than 2,000 members, will hold a memorial service at 11 a.m. on Memorial Day at the WWII Submarine Veteran's Memorial East at the end of Bridge Street.  A crowd of 100 to 150 is expected to attend.

5.  A group from Groton interested in working with a sister city will meet at 5:30 p.m. Thursday in the Town Hall Annex to discuss ways to bring international business into the region. The group includes a town councilor, school board member, Representative Town Meeting member and two members at large.
