Five Things To Know Today

A Golf Tournament, The Noank Foundry And Penguins

1.  Today is Thursday, May 26.  The National Weather Service predicts sunny skies, with a high temperature of 69 degrees and a low of about 60 tonight. It will cloud up this evening.

2.  Attorney General George Jepsen issued a statement Wednesday saying Bank of America Corp. needs to do more to help homeowners in the state struggling to pay mortgages. He said his office, the state Department of Banking and the Connecticut Fair Housing Center have received “numerous complaints” from people with loans through the bank. “Given that Bank of America is apparently poised to lift its moratorium on Connecticut foreclosures, I do not see that it has any credible plan to deal with the inevitable increase in … requests”  from borrowers asking for modifications to their loans, he wrote.

3.  Fitch High School holds its annual golf tournament at 12:30 p.m. on Friday at  Shennecossett Golf Course in Groton. The event supports the senior class Drug & Alcohol Free Graduation Party. The entry fee is $100 per person, and includes the greens fee, cart and lunch/dinner.

4.  The Noank Foundry Artists and Friends will hold a spring event from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. on Saturday at the Foundry at 70 Marsh Road. Art will include ironwork, jewelry, stonework, stained glass and sculpture. Massages will be available, and an herbalists will attend the event. Baked goods and henna body art will also be for sale.

5.  The Hard Rock Cafe in Foxwoods is hosting a 21+ Penguin Party at 6 p.m. on June 2 to benefit Mystic Aquarium’s African penguin conservation work. Proceeds from the $30 ticket will go to the aquarium. The ticket covers some alcoholic beverages and food. The event also features a visit by several of the penguins.
