Five Things To Know Today

A New Website, Boat Speed And Reduced Fees

1.  Today is Wednesday, July 13. The National Weather Service predicts mostly sunny skies, a high temperature near 83 degrees and a low of 60 degrees tonight.

2. The Town of Groton's website has been changed from www.town.groton.ct.us to www.groton-ct.gov.  Anyone typing in the old the main page address will automatically be directed to the new address. The change also affects employees' e-mail addresses, but the old e-mails will be good for two years, and e-mails will be redirected to the new addresses. The new e-mail addresses for town employees are the person's first initial, the last name, plus @groton-ct.gov.

3. Gov. Dannel Malloy has signed a bill into law that slows speeds on parts of the Mystic River. State Rep. Elissa Wright (D-Groton) introduced the bill because of increased boat traffic and increased power of vessels traveling the river. The new law says boats moving in certain zones cannot not leave more than a minimum wake and cannot go faster than 6 mph, except to maintain their steering.
