Five Things To Know Today

An Easement, A Senior Airman And National Night Out

1.  Today is Monday, July 18.  It'll be partly sunny, with a high temperature of 81 degrees and possible showers and thunderstorms this afternoon, according to The National Weather Service. The low will drop to 68 degrees tonight. 

2.  The Town Council meets at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday and will take up issues including the reappointment of Dr. Steven Carlow to the Ledge Light Health District Board of Directors and the granting of an easement for the Central Hall building project in downtown Mystic.

3.  The Council plans to recognize Maureen O. Edobor at its meeting Tuesday. Edobor, an immigrant from Nigeria, graduated from Fitch High School in 2005, enlisted in the Air Force in 2007, served in Kuwait and will be deployed to Korea for a year starting in the fall. Edobor, 22, has two associates degrees and has achieved the rank of Senior Airman.

4.  Groton Town Police are inviting residents to attend National Night Out from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Aug. 2 at Poquonnock Plains Park. The event, which promotes public safety, will include town police K9 demonstrations and a bicycle rodeo. The department of animal control, local fire departments, U.S. Navy and Lifestar are also expected to attend.

5.  The Groton Senior Center will host a regional Senior Art Show on Aug. 16. The event will showcase the work of other local senior centers, and will name winners in these areas: acrylics, watercolor, pastels, charcoal, photography, sculpture, pencil, pen and ink.
