Five Things To Know Today

Babe Ruth Baseball, Groton Bible Chapel and The Tea Party

1.  Today is Tuesday, July 19.  It'll be hot and muggy. The National Weather Service predicts a slight chance of showers this morning, then sunny skies and a high temperature of 86 degrees. The low will drop to 64 degrees tonight.

2.  In youth baseball news, Groton beat Tri County 1 by a score of 15 to 6 in the Babe Ruth game Saturday in Marlboro. Jesse Swink, winning pitcher for Groton, allowed 2 hits in 5 innings. Tommy Umrysz hit 4 out of 5 with 2 singles, a double and a home run out of the park. Lexus Gordon hit 3 for 4 with a double, Jesse Swink hit 3 for 5 with 2 doubles, and Juan Moscol and Josh Dull also hit doubles for Groton. 

3.  Groton Bible Chapel plans to build a church youth center on Tollgate Road, according to documents filed in town hall. The church filed a wetlands application Monday to build the youth center on the property, which now includes the brick church, gymnasium and parking.

4.  The Tea Party patriots will hold their next rally from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. on Saturday, July 30 outside TJ Maxx in Groton.  The group added 37 new members by having a booth at the North Stonington Fair, and will meet with the Waterford and Ledyard groups on Wednesday at Waterford Library.

5.  The Groton Business Association will hold a networking breakfast from 7 a.m. until 9 a.m. on Thursday at the Best Western Olympic Inn. The event is free and part of an effort to promote business in the Groton area. For more information, call Tricia Walsh at (860) 572-9578.
