Five Things To Know Today

The Mystic River Bridge Project, Revaluation And Farmer's Market Coupons

1.  Today is Friday, July 22. It'll be hot, hot, hot. The National Weather Service predicts sunny skies, a high of 92 degrees, and a chance of thunderstorms a little before lunchtime. The low will dip to 71 degrees tonight.

2.  The Department of Transportation will not try to finish the Mystic Bridge project a season ahead of schedule as it had hoped, according to an e-mail from Keith Schoppe, a project engineer.  The idea had been to push the schedule so it could be done by the spring 2012. But Schoppe said in a July 19 e-mail that this couldn't be accomplished. "There was simply no way to guarantee the normal operation of the bridge by Memorial Day 2012," he wrote. "There would have been great impact to mariners, and other risks outweighed the rewards . . ."

3.  The town is moving forward with revaluation of residential properties, and taking on the commercial side. Officials from the assessors office were scheduled to visit Electric Boat with Buckley Appraisers this week, and to visit Pfizer's former manufacturing plant and its research facilities on Aug. 2 and 3, according to a report by the assessor's office. Tyler Technologies, the group handling revaluation for the town, will tour the sub base on Aug. 10, and is also collecting data on the airport properties.

Residents must be 60 years or older, or disabled and living in subsidized housing to be eligible for the $15 books.

5.  Tri-County 2 beat Groton in Babe Ruth baseball Wednesday at Washington Park, 16-6. Two players has impressive plays, despite the loss: Tyler Jamon scored a two-run home run in the fourth inning, and Lexus Gordon hit a triple and had 2 RBIs.
