Five Things To Know Today

Farmer's Market Coupons, The Council Meeting and Nursing Homes

1.  Today is Tuesday, July 26.  The National Weather Service forecasts sunny skies, a high temperature of 81 degrees and a low of 66 tonight.

2.  Farmer's market coupons of $15 each are still available to seniors who qualify. Residents must be at least 60 years old, meet income guildelines and live in subsidized senior housing or housing for disabled residents. For a single person, the income to qualify is $20,147 annually; for a married couple, the income is $27,214.

3.  The Town Council's Committee of the Whole meeting scheduled for tonight has been canceled. The council meets next at 7:30 p.m. on Aug. 2 in the Town Hall Annex.

4.  The New London County Step Out: Walk to Stop Diabetes will be held from 4:30 p.m. until 6 p.m. on Aug. 2 at Baker Auditorium at Lawrence & Memorial Hospital. For more information, call Ceci Iliff, at (860) 303-3387.

5.  The Groton Senior Center will hold a seminar from 5:30 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Aug. 9 about the nursing home field. Author Sharon Murphy will give the seminar, called "Nursing Homes From the Inside Out: Breaking the Myths of the Industry." She will also have copies available of her book, "Nursing Home Confidential - An insider's Guide to Navigating the Nursing Home Industry."
