2.  FEMA is opening a Disaster Recovery Center in the Groton Senior Center at noon today to help residents, property owners and business owners in New London County learn about various disaster relief programs. The center will be staffed with state and federal officials who can answer questions. After today, the center's hours will be from 9 a.m. until 7 p.m. Monday through Saturday, and from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. Sunday. FEMA is urging those who suffered damage from Tropical Storm Irene to register by calling 800-621-FEMA (3362), or by going online to www.DisasterAssistance.gov.

3.  The Navy community in Eastern Connecticut will honor the 10th anniversary of Sept. 11 during a commemorative event at 1 p.m. on Sunday at the Nautilus & Submarine Force Library. The event will include a 21-gun salute and the unveiling of two memorial banners: one which features the names of the Sept. 11 victims, and the second which features the names of more than 9,000 servicemen and women who have died since then. Operation Iraqi Freedom Army Sgt. Sean Emond will be guest speaker at the event. The program is free and open to the public.
