Five Things To Know Today, Tuesday Aug. 23

School's Staticstician Begins Work Today, Surplus Property, The S & P Oyster Company And The Book Sale

1.  Today is Tuesday, Aug. 23.  The National Weather Service predicts sunny skies, a high temperature of 77 degrees and a low of 58 tonight.

2.  The district's Principal Analyst and Grants Investigator begins today. Amy Semerjian, of North Hampton, Mass., is a doctoral candidate from the University of Massachusetts and will be performing statistical analysis of student performance and district initiatives. Semerjian will also be actively pursuing competitive grants in addition to maintaining grants the district is entitled to.

3.  The Groton Regional Theatre is performing the Neil Simon comedy "Plaza Suite" at the Groton Senior Center this fall. Shows will be held in in November, and tickets are $12. For more information, call the senior center at (860) 441-6795.

4.  The S & P Oyster Company is holding a "Dine and Donate" night, on Sept. 8 to help raise money for the Mystic Flagpole Restoration Project. The company will donate 15 percent of the day’s net sales to the project, it said in a news release.  S & P Oyster Co. overlooks the Mystic River and is in the historic district near the drawbridge and flagpole.

5.  If you haven't stopped at Groton Public Library to check out its book sale, there's still time. The sale will be held in the library's meeting room through Wednesday, and offers deals on used books, DVDs, CDs and other donations made to the library.
