Groton Feels Strongly About Proposal To Ban Smoking with Kids In Cars

Friends of Groton Patch facebook have strong feelings about a proposal to ban smoking in cars with children age 6 and under.

The bill, A story on the proposal, posted on Groton Patch Monday morning had 24 comments on facebook by 8 p.m., with many voicing strong views.

Norman Malbaurn wrote he hopes the proposal passes.

“My parents use to smoke when I was a kid. I used to get so nauseous when they smoked in the car and I had no say in it,” he wrote.

Becky Barton wrote the proposal doesn’t go far enough.

“Ban it with any kid in the car. It's disgusting & children shouldn't be subjected to it!” she said.

Other said the government shouldn’t regulate what people do in private.

“They shouldn’t be able to pass that law because when you are in your car its private property not public space,” wrote Holly Webster.

Robin Walsh Mallove said obesity is a bigger risk than second-hand smoke.

“Let's arrest mom's coming out of the drive-thru at McDonalds, and those who let their children under six drink soda,” she said.

“Can we say..."Nanny State"... Give me a break...” wrote Christine Blanchette Fine. “Those cars are more dangerous than guns maybe you need a background check before allowing the purchase of one!”
