Groton Girls Softball Team Wins League Championship

Softball Team Defeats Mystic 9-4.

The Groton Girls Softball team for 9-10 year olds defeated Mystic Girls 9-4
Monday evening in Mystic to take the league championship.

"It was a complete team effort," said Jim Kamercia, father of one of the players. Pitcher Danyell Lopez pitched the entire game for the win.

Lopez had help from teammates Mancini, Cates, Cortrite, Prieto and Pope with
defensive support.  Giwoyna, Kamercia, Venditti, Sandt and Serabian helped
the cause at the plate.

Coach Jerry Prieto steered his team from a one win season last year to a 11-2 season this year and the championship. Jerry’s wife, Shannon, was an assistant coach, along with Mike Gabriel.
