Groton Legislators Co-Sponsored Bills That Became Law

New Public Acts Cover Topics Including DNA Testing, Bone Marrow Testing And Boat Speed

Legislators representing Groton co-sponsored dozens of bills this past session that became law, including three which will affect DNA testing, bone marrow testing and boat speed on the Mystic River.

State Rep. Edward Moukawsher, D-Groton, co-sponsored legislation with 100 other lawmakers, to require people arrested for serious felonies to submit to DNA testing.

State Rep. Elissa Wright, D-Groton, co-sponsored more than two dozen bills, including one with 58 other legislators that will require health insurance companies to cover the cost of bone marrow testing in Connecticut. Testing would be covered for people who consent to having their results included in the National Marrow Donor Program.

Wright and State Sen. Andrew Maynard, D-Stonington, whose district includes Groton, were among eight legislators to co-sponsor legislation to limit the speed of boats on the Mystic River.

The law would limit speed to "Slow-No-Wake" on the river between the entrance to Mystic Harbor and red navigation marker No. 22, not including a section of Beebe Cove; and from red navigation buoy "26" north to green navigation buoy "53".
