Nearly 6,000 CL&P customers in Groton are waiting for their electricity to be restored after tropical storm Irene blew down trees and power lines throughout the town Sunday. The widespread outages might have something to do with the wires stretched across six roads in Groton.
"Send me one lineman to tell me if it's live or dead," said Director of Emergency Management Joe Sastre of the wires. "We don't care, we'll do all the work to get rid of it."
Sastre said the Department of Public Works crews "went out there and kicked butt pushing trees out of the roads," but they had to let some trees remain because they were tangled up with power wires.

"We can't do anything if there are lines hooked into it," he said of a downed tree.
