Crowds Gathered Early on Route 1 to Enjoy the Holiday Parade Filled with Local Flavor

Thousands of spectators flocked to watch one of Groton's biggest annual productions - the Independence Day parade. The coastal fog burned off as over 85 marchers made their way down Route 1. The parade, starting at Poquonnock Plains Field at 10 a.m., ended at the Groton Shopping Plaza at 2 p.m.

Grand marshal and former mayor Dennis Popp waved to the crowds escorted on the back of a convertible.  From Mystic Paper Beasts and Roller Derby to Girl Scouts, Miss Connecticut and local veterans, the marchers elicited patriotic waves, clapping and cheers.
