Romney Wins Groton By Wide Margin

Primary brought out 553 voters, and cost the town $27,000.

 

Mitt Romney won the Republican presidential primary in Groton Tuesday by an overwhelming margin, with 353 of the 553 votes cast.

Ron Paul came in second with 67 votes; Newt Gingrich came in a third with 54 votes; Rick Santorum came in fourth with 48 votes; and 30 voters were uncommitted.

Groton has 3,913 registered Republicans, and had a turnout of 14 percent.

The primary cost the town about $27,000, according to the town clerk.
