The Town of Groton received enough MREs (meal, ready to eat) to feed 5,000 people said Director of Emergency Management Joe Sastre Wednesday. The food, along with water and ice, was supplied by FEMA in the wake of tropical storm Irene, which caused widespread power outages throughout the state Sunday.

The supplies are available at Pequonnock Plains Park, which is located on Route 1 near the intersection with Route 117. Sastre said the supplies are for people without water and, or electricity and will be handed out from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. until they run out.
