VIDEO: Water Main Repairs Will Take A Few Days

Groton Utilities spokesman Frank Winkler said the repairs of two water mains that broke Wednesday morning are well underway.

Workers said they were digging until 3 a.m. Thursday and discovered that the 16" line had a significant damage, probably due to old age.

A worker on the scene said the water rushes through the pipe at about 120 psi and then has to make a 90-degree turn and that T turn is where the break is.

A 10" pipe was also damaged.

They will be repairing the pipes for a few days and possibly through Saturday. The water is safe to drink although it may be discolored and some customers may experience shut offs in the interim.
