Democrats Take Groton Town Council, Widen Margin on School Board

Moukawsher re-elected town clerk; RTM vote also skews to Dems.

Democrats wrested control of the Town Council from Republicans in Tuesday night's municipal elections.

The new council will be made up of five Democrats and four Republicans. The GOP had controlled the council 7 seats to 2 for the past two years.

Democrats also gained a seat on the Board of Education, winning two out of the four open seats to give them a 6-to-3 advantage.

Incumbent Town Clerk Betsy Moukawsher easily defeated challenger Nicki Bresnyan to retain her position.

Democrats also dominated the Representative Town Meeting vote, with all of the party's slate gaining election pending possible recounts.
