The Groton Public Library Book Club will discuss When She Woke by Hillary Jordan on Wednesday, November 14, at 7 p.m.  Using Nathaniel Hawthorne’s The Scarlet Letter as a framework, Jordan crafts a dystopian cautionary tale where the United States has become a theocracy that chromes criminals, genetically altering their skin color according to their crimes and eventually releasing them into the general population.  The story centers on Hannah Payne who has been chromed red for the crime of murder – the murder of her unborn child.

Free and open to the public. No registration is necessary; just read the book and join us for an informal discussion.  If you need a copy of the book, please inquire at the Information Desk.
