Conn. College Offers Community Tree Planting Tips

Guide suggests that Connecticut towns and homeowners plant low trees and tall shrubs near utility lines

 

Groton residents whose yards need some spring sprucing after this year's damaging storms can take advantage of tree planting advice from the and the Connecticut Agricultural Experiment Station.

According to a press release from the college, the organizations have compiled a list of trees with low mature heights and they suggest planting these low trees and tall shrubs near street-side utility lines.

“Whether replacing trees lost to last year’s storms, or planting a new tree near – but not under – utility lines, towns and homeowners can be confident that trees on this list will minimize tree-related power outages during storms with high winds, snow and ice,” Connecticut College Arboretum Director Glenn Dreyer said in the press release.

The guide, titled, “Trees and Shrubs for Your Community,” is available online.
