Diet Tips for Going Out

This is kind of a “Survival Kit” which includes some tips to consider if you are on a diet and want to eat out.  This article has helped a lot of our dieters, which is why we wanted to share it here with our Patch readers.

So when you go out, these are some things to consider / watch out for:

Salads:

When you order your salads, watch out for shredded carrots or any form of cheeses! Once they’re in, it is VERY HARD to take them out. You can always make your own salad with vegetables you know the restaurant offers, like broccoli, cauliflower or asparagus, and you can ask for your veggies to be steamed, baked or grilled.

Getting a Dressing:

Just because the restaurant offers “Light Dressings” doesn’t mean they won’t make you deviate from your diet. Light dressings have more carbs and some fats so watch out! If you forgot your own dressing, then ask for sliced lemons, salt and pepper, it’s still delicious!

Also, when you order your salad, ALWAYS ASK FOR THE DRESSING ON THE SIDE! I can’t tell you how many times my dieters have deviated on their diet, because they got a salad with vegetables swimming in dressing, and they felt bad to send it back.

Grilled Meats:

Always opt for grilled meats when you go out. When they grill them, they usually use spices (most of which have no sugar, fat or carbs). Also, try to get leaner cuts of meat, and if it's marinated, keep in consideration that sugars from marinade can add-up and make you gain weight or even retain water, if it had too much sodium (aka: salt).

What a lot of our dieters do to avoid feeling like they are too picky, is they say they are gluten-allergic, which will help you stay on a low carb diet (such as Ideal Protein), and keep them worried of what they might be serving you.

Just remember to be careful and don’t be afraid to ask for what YOU want to eat; in the end, you are paying for the service.
