My Favorite Colors: Red, White, & Blue

On Saturday morning, my husband and I bid farewell to the U.S. Coast Guard Barque EAGLE, as she left New London for a summer abroad. On board were her crew and half the sophomore class of the Coast Guard Academy. The day could not have been more perfect, with a cool breeze, clear blue sky, and crisp water of the Thames River setting an ideal backdrop! The enthusiasm was electric as those on board were getting ready for the first 22-day leg of their sea journey to Waterford, Ireland. We snapped some photographs of the cadets, and then hurried off the ship to watch them set sail. 

As EAGLE pushed away from the dock, the huge U.S. Flag was unfurled on the rear of the ship. With the wind gusts causing it to wildly ripple in the wind, a huge cheer went up from the crowd that had gathered there on the dock. After the events of last week, watching our most beautiful American flag wave under the bright May sun made me swell with pride. Those colors of red, white, & blue made me realize how truly proud I am to be an American!
