Gardner Says Town's Elected Republicans Are Untrustworthy

Groton BOE member says the elected Republicans are that by name only, not in policy or actions.

This is letter was submitted to the editor from Shelley Gardner, a BOE member who objects to the way the town's elected Republicans represent their party.

As a Republican, I respect the Democrat's in the Town of Groton.  I do not however, respect the ruling Republican majority in Groton. The Democrats, mentioned above, and I may not hold the same ideologies in high regard, as they continuously vote to increasingly grow government on the backs of the taxpayers. Perhaps, it makes them feel entitled and powerful to treat the majority of Groton voters like peasants, simply there to provide a service to them. In this case, to replenish the coffers after they have they have padded them, mismanaged them and then drained them. That being said, this is, who they are, and I personally cannot disrespect them for being open about their beliefs. They make no attempt to lead anyone to believe they would act differently.  The Democratic party today portrays themselves as, "Bleeding Hearts". What that implies, I am never quite sure. I have my own theories about what to call them, but I shall abstain from using that term here and now.

My issue today in Groton is that, the RATS or ruling Republicans Acting in Town, are portraying themselves to be, something that they are not. If it walks like a duck, quacks like a duck and looks like a duck. It most likely is a duck. Our Town, to those of you who may not have been awake for the past 20th years, is ruled by RHINO's (Republicans In Name Only).

The message, that was boisterously relayed to myself and a friend, at Trader Jacks some 18-years-ago, by a current board member, was that if one wanted to get elected in Groton, one had to register as a Republican. The individual stated that it was common knowledge locally and many have done this to gain access to power. It didn't matter that you were not Republican. You only needed to be registered as one.

My point is, as you might be asking by this time, is that it is hard to trust anyone who pretends to be something that they are openly, not. I am ashamed to be labeled, a Republican in the Town of Groton, because as the adage goes, "You are known by the company you keep". I personally, do not want to be known, now or ever as a hypocrite, and will not now or ever keep, company with the ruling Republicans in Groton.
