Indictment Charges Fake Sub Parts From China Shipped To Sub Base

The Day reports on federal indictment that charges a Massachusetts man with conspiracy, fraud and trafficking. It's not clear if counterfeit parts ended up on subs.

According to a report in The Day, “fake parts” for submarines were shipped to Sub Base in Groton from China, but, the report said, it’s not known if “any of the components wound up on a nuclear submarine.”

The Day story quotes from an indictment of a Massachusetts-based military parts distributor now charged with conspiracy, fraud and trafficking. The counterfeit parts, according to The Day story, were shipped to the sub base between November 2011 and February 2012.

And, the newspaper reports, two of the semiconductors “were intended for active-duty nuclear submarines in Groton, though there was no indication in the indictment whether they actually had been used on board a sub.”
