Permission To Come Aboard ...More Women as Submariners?

The Navy may allow women to be in more classes of submarines.

Women will be able to serve on two Virginia-class submarines beginning in January 2014 and the following year, in March 2015, the Navy may decide to allow women on more classes of submarines.

Following the Department of Defense’s announcement to allow women to serve in positions throughout the military, the Navy released a timeline to open all positions to enlisted women, including those on submarines, according to a report in The Day.

Currently, female officers can serve on each type of submarine: fast-attack, ballistic-missile and guided-missile and the Navy is considering whether or not to let them on Los Angeles and Seawolf-class fast-attack, according to the report in The Day.
