And Thus, the 2012-13 Snow Sports Season Begins

The snow guns are blasting away up north and there has been some natural snow as well.

Listen …

Point your ears northward and listen some more. Ah, the sound of snow guns.

That's right, winter has come to the northern snow sports resorts on the heels of a hurricane.

The photos began emerging on Facebook in the middle of this week. Mount Snow, Sunday River, Sugarloaf, Burke, Okemo and Stratton had some interesting posts.

Some of the pictures from some of the summits show doff what resembled mid-winter conditions. Okemo hinted it was way ahead of its normal pace.

Oh yeah, there was some natural snow too.

Some resorts have decided to open this week and others are opening next week. Others have begun to make snow and are increasing the pace.

All the activity created a buzz at the Boston snow sports expo.

The best advice is to log on to your favorite resort's Web site or to call ahead for trail counts and pricing.

There were a few $29 specials out there and a lot of easily season package. deals.

There's a feeling here that the winter can be pretty good. So far, nighttime temperatures have cooperated for the snowmaking crews throughout northern New England.

Maybe abundant natural stuff will make it a solid season.

Then again, isn't anything better than last season?
