As reported today, the Board of Education approved a plan what would build a middle school and close 3 elementary schools.  Hopefully this plan will be stopped in its tracks before any more taxpayer money is spent on studies and consultants.

The Board of Education recently dragged the Town of Groton through the painful and dysfunctional decision of closing Fitch Middle School. They made their decision, like it or not the Town of Groton must live with it. Now is the NOT the time for million dollar construction projects. Now is the time to make modest alterations to the two existing middle schools.

There have been ZERO educational studies that link type of brick building to student achievement.

The BOE, along with Wes Greenleaf, for decades have been redistricting students like they are pawns in a game. Time to stop. My street has been redistricted out of Northeast School into Freeman Hathaway/Mystic Academy, then redistricted to Butler and Noank, then redistricted to Northeast Academy. Enough! Keep students in elementary schools as close to their homes as possible or make ALL elementary schools magnet schools with parents having the choice of which elementary school their child attends.
