82-Year-Old Groton Man Arrested In Death Of Pedestrian

Victim struck in crosswalk on Fort Hill Road


An 82-year-old Groton man was arrested Friday in the death of a pedestrian in December, 2011, police said in a news release.

George Evans, of 50 Fulton Drive in Groton, was arrested on a warrant for negligent homicide with a motor vehicle and failing to avoid a pedestrian in a crosswalk, according to a Groton Town Police Department news release.

Evans struck and killed Anthony McClellan while he was in a crosswalk on Fort Hill Road at Vergennes Court on December 6, 2011, the release said.

Evans was released on a $25,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in New London Superior Court on May 11, the release said.
